Compared with oolong tea production, Taiwan’s production of black tea is on a much smaller scale, yet, the flavor is very diverse. Ruby 18 , also known as Red Jade, is a newer cultivar discovered through experimentation, a hybrid of the Assam cultivar and Taiwan’s indigenous tea tree cultivar. It has a distinctive peppermint profile, with hints of cinnamon. After being introduced to the market, Ruby 18 quickly became so popular that some started to call it “the fragrance of Taiwan”. It is the most well-known Taiwanese black tea on the global market.
